Beast of the East
By Jordan Lynch-Roach on October 8, 2017
It’s October and you know what that means? The NBA season is almost here! With the NBA preseason having started and the season being less than two weeks away, it’s only right to start some discussions about the upcoming NBA season. As we already know there were some blockbusters moves made this offseason that will surely shake up the 2017-2018 NBA season. All-Stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Paul George, and Jimmy Butler took their talents to the Western Conference making it an even easier task for the Beast of the East. Of course, this is none other than LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who seem destined to make it back to the NBA finals.
Why They Dominate the East
Even though LeBron’s recent sidekick, Kyrie Irving, took off to Boston to pursue his own path to a championship, the Cavaliers seem to be stronger than last year. LeBron James has his best friend Dwyane Wade back at his side and also has Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Derrick Rose, and Jeff Green to an already elite roster.

James also seems fueled by this new rivalry that has brewed over this offseason between him and Kyrie Irving. James wasn’t pleased with the way Kyrie Irving went about asking for a trade request, and now he isn’t only an enemy of LeBron, but the biggest threat to the Cavaliers to make it back to the NBA Finals. Even though every season seems like an MVP season for LeBron James, I believe this year will be the year he gets his 5th MVP award.
The Boston Celtics made some big moves themselves. Along with bringing in Kyrie Irving, they added All-Star Gordon Hayward and drafted Duke standout Jayson Tatum. Look for the Boston Celtics to challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers to make it out of the East.

Outside of Boston, there isn’t much of a challenge for the three-time Eastern Conference Championships as the East has only gotten weaker during the offseason. The Cleveland Cavaliers should easily finish atop of the Eastern Conference with their star-studded roster, and keep their title of being the “Beast of the East.”
Here are my predictions for the Eastern Conference standings for the 2017-18 season:
1- Cleveland Cavaliers
3- Washington Wizards
4- Toronto Raptors
6- Charlotte Hornets
7- Miami Heat
8- Detroit Pistons
9- Philadelphia 76ers
10- Atlanta Hawks
12- Chicago Bulls
13- Orlando Magic
14- New York Knicks
15- Brooklyn Nets
